Chocolate Peanut Butter Potato Chips – An amazing salty-sweet combo! Rippled potato chips slathered in creamy peanut butter and rich chocolate!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Potato Chips? Have I lost my mind? Nope. Absolutely not. Salty. . .sweet. . .peanut butter. . .chocolate. Chocolate Peanut Butter Potato Chips are absolutely amazing and guaranteed to be your new favorite chocolate snack!
Earlier this year, my husband and I were lucky enough to receive a gift from The Chocolate Pizza Company® out of Marcellus, New York. We had never heard of it, or Chocolate Pizzas® for that matter, but we quickly realized that we learned everything we needed to know about The Chocolate Pizza Company® the moment we opened the package. These people are geniuses!
So, not only do they sell Chocolate Pizzas® of every imaginable kind (we received the chocolate/white chocolate one shown above), they also are famous for a delectable delight they call Peanut Butter Wings®, which was also in our gift package. Huh? Yeah, Peanut Butter Wings®.
People eat chicken wings with regular pizzas, so why not Peanut Butter Wings® with a Chocolate Pizza®? Peanut Butter Wings® are completely understated in their deliciousness! Crispy rippled potato chips slathered in creamy peanut butter and rich chocolate. Sounds simple, but every bite is pure joy!
After indulging in (i.e., inhaling) the Peanut Butter Wings®, I knew I had to try to make these wonderful creations at home! And recreate them, I did. Voila – Chocolate Peanut Butter Potato Chips!
How did I recreate such lusciousness? Well, first, I realized right off the bat that spreading peanut butter on potato chips probably wasn’t going to work very well. I decided to melt the peanut butter, drizzle it, and then let it set up. This got me exactly the consistency I wanted without the mess and frustration of trying to spread peanut butter on the chips.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Potato Chips may sound strange in theory, but trust me, they’re wonderful! I liken them to dipping French fries into a Wendy’s chocolate Frosty – seems weird at first, but it’s ultimately one of the best things about eating at Wendy’s.
For the chocolate, I found it easier to spread the chocolate on top of the chips with the back of a spoon rather than try to dip them. Do what works best for you, though. What I really need is an at-home version of those chocolate enrobing machines you see on shows like Unwrapped. That would be da bomb!
These things are SO easy to make, but they do take some patience since you’ll want to gobble them up right then and there. Taking time for the peanut butter and chocolate to set up really is the hardest part about making these tasty treats.
If you don’t quite have that much patience, you could halve the chocolate and cover only the peanut butter side of the chips with chocolate and leave the other side naked. This is a great option, too, if you really want your taste buds to savor the salt from the potato chips when you bite into these tasty confections.
Wonderful. A must-make. The best part of your fall tailgate or football view parties. Or relaxing at home by yourself on a Friday night. (Which is sometimes more fun!) Whatever you’re celebrating, Chocolate Peanut Butter Potato Chips make the party even better!
- 24 medium- to large-sized rippled or wavy potato chips
- 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
- 16 ounces milk or dark chocolate coarsely chopped, divided
Place a gridded cooling rack on top of a piece of wax paper. Place the potato chips on the rack, spaced so the chips are not overlapping.
Melt the peanut butter in a microwaveable bowl at half power for 30-45 seconds. Spoon melted peanut butter into a sealable plastic bag or disposable pastry bag.
Snip a small piece off the corner of the plastic bag and drizzle the peanut butter evenly over the potato chips. Allow peanut butter to set up for about one hour.
Place 6 ounces of the chocolate into a microwave-proof bowl. Place in the microwave and melt on low for 30-second intervals, stirring in between intervals.
Add 1 ounce chopped chocolate to the melted chocolate. After the chocolate is thoroughly melted, add 1 ounce chopped chocolate and stir until melted.
Place a spoonful of chocolate onto one potato chip and spread chocolate with the back of the spoon to cover the peanut butter and the chip. Add more chocolate if necessary. If chocolate cools too much, re-heat in the microwave on low for 30 seconds.
Repeat with remaining potato chips. Allow chocolate to set; about 2 hours.
Turn potato chips over to expose underside of potato chips. Repeat chocolate coating as before. Allow chocolate to set.
Store in an airtight container. May be refrigerated.
Peanut butter and chocolate quantities are approximate. You may need more or less depending upon the size of your potato chips.
If using chocolate melting wafers, melt according to package instructions.
