Cherry Limeade Margaritas – A super yummy margarita for those of us who couldn’t get enough cherry limeade slushies as a kid! Get your fiesta on!
Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, and I think we owe ourselves a fiesta with these Cherry Limeade Margaritas at the center of it all!
As a food blogger, it’s hard to let a holiday (especially a very festive one!) go by without celebrating with food. There are a handful of Worth Whisking recipes perfectly suited to Cinco de Mayo. Churros with Caramel Dipping Sauce, Mexican Dessert Trifles, and Caramel Cinnamon Apple Enchiladas to name a few.
However, this year, I wanted to go straight-up traditional and do a margarita recipe. And while I will never turn down a classic margarita (ever), I thought I’d go a bit more festive and add some flavor. I heart fancy-pants martinis, so why not a fancy margarita?
But what to do? So many potential flavor combinations! But then inspiration struck me right in the middle of Target while shopping for clearance Easter candy – Cherry Limeade Peeps!
Not so much the Peeps part (although I do love them), but the cherry limeade flavor combo. Delish! I’ve always been a huge fan – going back to the post-slushie tongue- and mouth-stained days of my youth.
Cherry Limeade Margaritas it is. But not just a glass or two. No, it’s Cinco de Mayo! We’re going to party hardy! A pitcher of margs is needed to celebrate properly!
These Cherry Limeade Margaritas could not be easier! Literally, just dump all the ingredients into a 2-quart pitcher and mix. That’s it! Seriously, there are less than five minutes between you and margarita bliss!
Now, I prefer to actually taste the tequila in my margaritas, so I used a full 2 cups in this recipe. If you like your tequila flavor to be a bit more subtle, you may want to reduce the amount of tequila just a tad. Maybe use 1 ¾ cups instead, but I’m not sure I can endorse less than that. 😉
I love how these Cherry Limeade Margaritas turned out. I went with black cherry juice because it’s sweeter than tart (and you know I love all that is sweet!). The added lime juice balances the sweet with just a bit of tartness, and the overall cherry-limeade flavor combo is unmistakable.
It’s time for a fiesta, and these Cherry Limeade Margaritas are your ticket to the party!
- 2 cups silver tequila
- 2 cups cherry juice (tart or black based upon your preference)
- 2 cups water
- 1 12- ounce can frozen limeade concentrate thawed
- 1 cup triple sec
- Juice of two limes
Combine all ingredients in a 2-quart pitcher and mix well. Serve cold.
Pour over ice in salt-rimmed glasses if desired.
